Free Payment Receipt Generator with GST

This generator produces a receipt acknowledging money you have been paid: the amount, the date, how it was paid and against what. It covers both a plain acknowledgement against an invoice already raised and a receipt voucher for an advance, where GST law does prescribe the contents.

The distinction matters. A receipt for a payment against an invoice you have already issued carries no fresh tax, because the tax was charged on that invoice. A receipt voucher for an advance is a different document with its own prescribed particulars, and the tax position on advances is not the same for goods as it is for services.

Set the GST rate to zero for a simple acknowledgement against an existing invoice, or to the applicable rate where the receipt is for an advance that carries tax. Everything runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

  • Tax on an advance is charged for services. For goods, Notification 66/2017-Central Tax means tax is payable when the invoice is issued rather than on the advance, so a receipt voucher for goods normally carries no tax.
  • Rule 50 says that where the rate is not determinable the tax is paid at 18%, and where the nature of supply is not determinable it is treated as inter-state.

Frequently asked questions

A payment receipt is a commercial acknowledgement that money was received, usually against an invoice already issued. A receipt voucher is a document GST law prescribes for an advance received before the supply, and it has its own required particulars. This generator can produce either: link it to an invoice for the first, or set the applicable tax rate for the second.
For services, yes: the time of supply under section 13(2) is the earlier of the invoice or the receipt of payment, so tax is due on the advance. For goods, no: Notification 66/2017-Central Tax shifted the time of supply to the invoice, so a registered supplier who is not under composition pays nothing on the advance, though the receipt voucher is still issued. Rule 50 also settles the awkward cases: where the rate is not determinable the tax is paid at 18%, and where the nature of supply is not determinable it is treated as inter-state.
A signature or digital signature is what makes the acknowledgement stand up if the payment is later disputed, particularly for cash. The sheet leaves a signature block for the authorised signatory, which is also what the prescribed receipt voucher expects.
You do not have to, because the bank statement already evidences the payment on both sides. Many businesses still do, because it closes the loop for the payer and gives both sides a document that names the invoice the money was against, which a bank narration usually does not.
Where a receipt voucher was issued for an advance and no supply follows, GST law provides for a refund voucher against that receipt voucher, so the tax position can be unwound. That is a separate document from this one; issue it against the original receipt voucher rather than simply tearing up the receipt.
Yes. Section 269ST of the Income-tax Act bars receiving ₹2,00,000 or more in cash from one person in a day, in a single transaction, or against a single event. The penalty under section 271DA falls on the recipient and equals the amount received, so this is your exposure rather than the payer's. The generator flags a cash receipt that reaches the limit.
Yes. Fill your details as the landlord, the tenant as the payer, and set the GST rate to zero unless you are registered and charging tax on the rent. If the receipt is for an HRA claim, the tenant will usually also need your PAN on it where the annual rent is large, so put it in your business details.
