# Free GST Invoice Generator for Indian Businesses

This GST invoice generator produces a tax invoice you can send to a customer or hand to your accountant. Fill in your business once, add the items, and the CGST, SGST or IGST split, the rate-wise tax summary and the amount in words are worked out as you type.

Whether the tax splits into CGST and SGST or lands as IGST follows the place of supply, not where you happen to be sitting. The generator reads the first two digits of the two GSTINs, which are the State code, and shows which way it went so you can check it before you send the invoice.

Everything runs in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded, stored on a server or sent anywhere, and your own business details are kept in this browser only so you do not retype them next time.

## Frequently asked questions

Is this GST invoice generator really free?

Yes. There is no sign-up, no limit on how many invoices you make and no watermark on the document. It runs entirely in your browser, so there is no account for us to charge for and nothing for you to cancel.

Does my data get uploaded anywhere?

No. Every calculation happens in your browser and nothing you type is sent to a server. Your own business details are saved in this browser's local storage if you ask for them to be, so they are there next time, and you can clear them by clearing site data. Customer details and line items are never saved at all.

How does it decide between CGST plus SGST and IGST?

By comparing the State of the supplier with the place of supply. The first two digits of a GSTIN are the State code, so when both GSTINs start with the same two digits the supply is intra-state and the tax splits into CGST and SGST. When they differ, or the place of supply is in another State, it is inter-state and IGST applies. The preview names which one was used so you can check it.

Why does the invoice show a round off line?

Because each line is rounded to paise and the invoice total is rounded to the nearest rupee, and the difference has to go somewhere visible. Showing it as a separate round off line keeps the line items, the tax summary and the total reconciling to each other. You can switch the rounding off if you would rather show paise.

Can I use this invoice for claiming input tax credit?

Your customer can claim credit on a valid tax invoice, provided the supply is genuine, the invoice carries everything Rule 46 requires and you report it in your returns so that it reaches their GSTR-2B. One caveat matters more than the rest: if your turnover in any year from 2017-18 onwards crossed ₹5 crore, e-invoicing applies to you, and Rule 48(5) says an invoice issued any way other than through the portal is not treated as an invoice at all. In that case generate the IRN and QR code on the portal and use this only as a working draft.

Does it store an invoice number series for me?

No. The number is yours to control, because Rule 46(b) requires it to be consecutive and unique for the financial year, and only you know what you have already issued. The rule also caps it at sixteen characters and allows only letters, numerals, hyphen and slash, which the generator checks as you type. If you need a series maintained for you across a team, that is what accounting software is for.

Can I add my logo?

Not at the moment. The sheet is deliberately plain so that it prints cleanly in black and white and stays legible when it is scanned or forwarded. Your business name, address and GSTIN appear at the top, which is what the document has to carry.
